Department of Science and Technology 2020

 department of science and technology

The Department of Science and Technology, established in May 1971, aims to promote research in new areas and to play the role of a nodal department for organizing, coordinating, and promoting science and technology-related activities across the country. The department has formulated policy forms and guidelines during these years. The department has established coordination systems in areas of science and technology in which many institutions are interested and have potential and have provided financial assistance to scientific institutions and business organizations.

R&D Program

The Department of Science and Technology (DST) is doing the important work of locating and promoting leading and priority research and development areas in various disciplines in the fields of science and engineering. This work is done through the Science and Engineering Research Council (SERC), an advisory body comprising eminent scientific and technical experts from IITs, universities, national laboratories, and industries. Each year the department receives about 1000 research proposals, most of which fall under the category of basic science and engineering research.

Keeping in mind the importance of the emerging interdisciplinary field of enology and technology, a National Program Nanomaterials Science and Technology Initiative has been launched. The program lays great emphasis on the complete research and development of nanoscience and technology so that India can play an important role in this field and contribute to the development of new technologies. On the occasion of the 50th anniversary of India's independence, the government launched the Golden Jubilee Research Scholarship Scheme, which aims to help talented young scientists achieve world-class potential in science. This fellowship is for Indian scientists in the age group of 30-40 who have done excellent work in research and touched new heights in their field of expertise.

Infrastructure Development
The Department of Science and Technology, through its various programs, is a catalyst in setting up new facilities for research and development and helping to improve the existing facilities. The program to promote research in high priority areas has helped strengthen basic facilities and research capabilities in select areas of science and engineering.

A new program Fund for the Improvement of Science and Technology Infrastructure in Universities and Other Higher Educational Institutions has been launched with a view to improving the infrastructure of research and teaching in educational / research institutions. Under this, equipment, computer networking, library, etc. facilities are provided to improve laboratories. The active university / academic department is identified by a peer revision process.
